What is the speed of an aircraft?

OPERATION “LIGHTS ON”
All pilots are encouraged to turn on external aircraft lights when operating
below 10,000FT, day or night, especially when operating within 10NM of any
aerodrome or in conditions of reduced visibility. Notwithstanding, pilots
need to comply with any equipment operating limitations, and consider the
effects of landing lights and strobe lights on other aircraft in their vicinity.
Good airmanship dictates that strobes should be off when in the clouds, and
strobes and landing lights should be off when clear of the runway after landing
so as not to blind ground personnel or other pilots.
External aircraft lights are not only useful for taxi, take-off and landing, but
also provide a useful means by which an aircraft can be seen by other pilots
during flight. Widespread participation in Operation “Lights On” will enhance
the see-and-be-seen concept of averting collisions, both in the air
and on the ground.
