What is the difference between "Aviation gas" and regular gas? Is it something to do additives for altitude?

AV-Gas IS NOT KEROSENE. Av-gas is gasoline that was much higher octane than the gasoline used in cars. While car gasoline is 86-93 octane Av-gas is 100 or 110. Also there are a few flavors of Av-gas, 100 which is red and 110which is blue-ish. 110 is labelled as 110LL (low lead). Though labelled as LL the lead contained is many, many times higher than car gasoline. In fact, the lead is in such a small amount in car fuel it is called unleaded. If you put 110LL in a US car which has emissions equipment, like a catalytic converter you will ruin the system. 110LL is also not racing fuel. That is also unleaded. Though they have the same octane rating they are different. 1 tank of 110LL might be fun once but will ruin your car.

Can Passenger flight be at a same place in the air same as fighter planes?

The octane level is the difference.

why do as airplane weight increases the glide ability increases?

Amount of Octane; Some av gas had upwards of 150 octane in WWII. The higher the octane the more constant the detonation in the combustion chamber. Actually helps the fuel burn slower and at the same instant. No pre-ignition knock so deadly to high performance engines. Regular automobile gasoline today has no lead in it and reduced levels of octane. Modern engines have been de-tuned and had the compression ratio reduced to better burn the lower grade fuels of today. All of these changes basically to reduce price.

AV-GAS now days is for turbine compressors. It's closer to kerosene.
Don't get confused between the high octane fuels used in the internal combustion/propeller driven & jet turbines that indeed do use a very low combustion white gas. The avgas of yesterday is very red due to the octane.

Jet fuel is like kerosine, regular gas has many additives and varies in octain levels.

octane,I think avgas is like 106

One difference is thataviation fuel is higher octane. This is for your smaller planes such as the cessna.

JP-8 OR 9 is way more ignitable than regular gas. It's about as different as diesel is from gasoline.

Why doesn't Cessna bring back the 150 & 152?

The octane level, aviation fuel has a higher octane rating. In simpler terms, it has more power!

Aviation-gas (AVGAS) is a more common name for fuel used in aeroplanes, it is mostly Kerosene.

Regular 'Gas' which you fill your big fuel guzzling vehicle with is really called Petrol in ENGLISH (which you claim to speak)

Av gas has a higher octane rating than Mo gas .- usually around 100-100. It is also quite different moleculary and is lighter than mogas. There are also stricter quality controls in AV gas, to limit the amount of impurities in it.
Avgas has a lower volatility than mogas (i.e. it does not evaporate as quickly), which can be important for high-altitude use at a high altitudes and higher temperatures. The particular mixtures in use today are the same as when they were first developed in the 1950s and 1960s, and therefore the high-octane ratings are achieved by the addition of tetra-ethyl lead (TEL), a fairly toxic substance that was phased out for car use in most countries in the 1980s. The main petroleum component used in blending avgas is alkylate, which is essentially a mixture of various isooctanes, and some refineries also use some reformate.

Book advertised on back of Jan 2007 'Aeroplane' re RAE Farnborough. Where can I get it, cost to mail to Canada

Avgas is currently available in several grades with differing maximum lead concentrations. Since TEL is a rather expensive additive, a minimum amount of it is typically added to the fuel to bring it up to the required octane rating so actual concentrations are often lower than the maximum.

And by the way AV gas is NOT kerosene. AVTUR or aviation TURBINE fuel is used in Jets is a kind of kero and is not the same as AVGAS.

cold conditions---good question

In the Aeromexico planes. do u think theyre will be movies playing?

The main difference is aviation gas still has lead. Car gas octane quits at 93 octane. Aviation fuel is 100 octane. They call it 100LL, for low lead, but it has 4 times the lead as 80 octane leaded aviation fuel.
It is formulated to stay good a lot longer. A 55 gal. drum of 100LL will be good for nearly 2 years if left sealed. Car gas will last about 90 days sealed.

How much does it cost to get a PPL?

Lots of misinformation is being posted on here. The main big difference is Octane rating. There are probably different additives for aircraft use, but octane is the biggie. Normal street cars run octane rating from 87 to normally around 94. The higher the octane, the more compression you can put into an engine. It gets a little complicated to explain. I've seen Av-gas rated from 98 up to 120. They probably make other types also. Many short track race cars will run about 110 to 115.

Why does it coast more to hire and fly?

Even MORE misinformation, sheeesh. The last one was the best. Typically at most airports you find 100LL, 100 octane "low lead". There isn't much lead in it, the octane is achieved by aromatics, that is to say it's a lighter cut of fuel. The biggest difference is the way it's handled, the entire distribution of it is handled by truck, not pipeline, so the quality is more assured. Plus it isn't in as high of a demand anyways, so it makes sense to truck it. There are NO special additives out there for avgas that I am aware of, never seen any sold at an FBO (fixed base operator) anyways, and I've pumped my fair share of the stuff at MSN. 100LL is tinted BLUE, there is also 80 octane which is RED, and 100/130, which is GREEN, this is primarily used in old warbirds and is hard to find.
JET fuel is a kerosene product, it's a lighter cut than Diesel fuel to prevent gelling at altitute. MOST of what you find in the civilian market is called JET-A. There is ONE additive for jet fuel that I'm aware of, it's called Prist and prevents bio growth in long term storage in the aircraft.

What aircraft would you purchase if you had just won the lottery?

Regular gas is octane rating is in low to mid nineties. Aviation gas is around 132 octane. This gas is used by all small (piston engine) propeller airplanes. Turboprops and jets use JP4 which is kerosene.
