-The Firefox was a mock-up made just for that Clint Eastwood movie. The landing gear was from an F4, the airframe was plywood and fiberglass. A Volkswagen engine provided power for the ground shots (taxiing, etc). I have a copy of the origonal drawings. Special effects were done by the same folks who did the first "Star Wars" movie.
