where can I take this virtual tour of the 747-800?

I've worked on the ramp and in the hangers at a large international airport for 26 years, and I can tell you there really isn't that much exhaust fumes around. The only time you really smell the jet exhaust is if you're downwind of a running engine, but it dissipates very fast. And we don't stand behind running engines if we can help it. The minimum safe distance behind a B747-400 at idle is 160 feet, and at breakaway power it's 590 feet. The fumes you get from car exhausts when standing next to a busy road are much worse.

how many boeing 747 jumbos fly into bangalore, chennai and mumbai?

It is not good to have long term exposure to jet exaust, but they won't sufficate. there is still oxygen in the air. The way a jet works, it doesn't burn all the air to burn. The vast majority of the air out of the back of a jet engine is just compressed and forced out to provide foward thrust. A true rocket would require you to stay further back to remain safe. So yes...The air is poor quality, but it won't sufficate you even if it is blasting directly at you. I kinda like that kerosene smell to be honest. jason

OSHA is all over this one. There's large vacuum vents in the tarmac where refueling is done to vent off the fumes.

It's kind of like the people that say they love the smell of gasoline. Jet exhaust seems to have sweet light odor, or maybe i've just come to love it, like drinking coffee.
