The other option is college ROTC and receive a commission and then enter flight training. The other, but more rare option is to attend a civilian college and study aeronautics and receive flight training there and attempt to enter OCS (Officer Canidate School) and then apply for flight school.
Only the most exceptional students make it through flight training and become fighter jocks. Most military pilots end up flying support aircraft, althought some become bomber pilots. The rarest breed are test pilots. Although many decide to pursue astronaut training.
