... not kites in a park but seriously guessing a fixed wing first but still fancy learning to fly a helicopter... don't mind if its here in the UK or in the US or even as mentioned before in Canada. If it work out cheaper going abroad then thats what I'll do just how long would it take then ? already getting some good advice but any info would be greatly appriciated... thanks

Well first of all I don't have any idea what the prices of flying are in any of Europe or Canada but i can say that i don't believe an FAA-issued certificate or helicopter endorsement anyway will get you ready for flying in Europe... it may be more overthere but you will learn to fly where you will be flying after training and to me that was priceless, learning to fly at my home airport where I do most of my flying... also the difference in metric and imperial units as well as milibars as opposed to inces of mercury for altimiter settings may throw a learner for a loop when you head back to Europe. Just a rough estimate for prices in the US though, about $6500 for a private pilot certificate and then figure an additional $150 min. per hour to fly a chopper for about 50 hours to reach proficiency and $30/hr for an instructor for at least 25 of those 50 hrs. your looking at close to $20,000 by the time you get flights over here, a hotel for a few weeks while you train, and food... do it in Europe my friend.why do kamikazi pilots wear helmets ?
I have wanted to be a helicopter pilot and my brother looked into being a private plane pilot for a career.Profiling? So What? From a pilot's point of view...?
I found out that the best/cheapest way in the USA, least around the upper NE, is to find a small helicopter training school at a local airport, not a large airport. These guys are certified and normally have their own schools and each instructor charges his going rate. Looking around this can vary some and you can easily save 10,000 over the next guy for the entire course.

Pilot from what my brother said was bout the same. Also from what I researched many in the business actually told me to get Microsoft Flight Simulator and get to know it inside and out. It was an excellent beginning point to start to get to know all the terms, controls, how things work, order they work, etc. Also is a real cheap way to make sure its what you want. $50 game sure beats 30,000 and then realizing....nah...this isn't for me.
Now on the job side of things. From all the ad's I saw from across the USA, 96% of them all stated they wanted military flying experience as part of the resume. Not just the certificate. Even corporate helicopters for private companies, which is where I was looking to fly, even wanted military experience.
why dont planes fly into each other?
I am not one to say go into the military, nor am one that wants to go in, but it seems like that career field is dominated by them. Plus its free to join and learn through them, if you want to look at it that way.
PS - just google flight simulator and there are many many ad on's for the program. including multiple helicopters. they also sell realistic game controllers so you can sit at home and act like you are working and watching real helicopter equipment while playing the game for even more a real effect. Its the most advanced game out there...and I wouldn't even call it a game....but a true flight simulator.
Join the military. you have to go to college for every branch but the Army though. It's worth it!
