where is romania?

It depends on what the runway is for. John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA, has a runway that is about a mile long. But it can't accomodate, say, a 747 that requires more than a mile. For that, you need closer to a two mile runway, like Los Angeles International, which is over 12,000 feet long.

Who believes the hype about the Airbus A380?

it depends on the types of aircraft that will be landing at that airport. smaller aircrafts require a shorter length, while bigger jets like the Boeing B747 or Airbus A380 will require a few miles of runway to land. Small airports catering to light aircrafts and flying schools will have a 2km runway. Large international airport hubs like Singapore Changi, or Sydney Kingsford-Smith will have an approx 4, 5km runway

How much money does it cost to air a commercial in the T.V?

How much does it cost to get a PPL?

WOW...looks like it's time for an actual pilot to answer this question.
Your runways can range from anywhere to 2,000 feet to 14,000 feet. The smaller airports such as small county airports or private airfieds is where you will generally find your runways that range from 1,500' to 5,000'. In small cities such as Hot Springs, Arkansas or Texarkana runways are about 5,000' to 7,000'. In medium size cities such as Little Rock, Arkansas the runways range from 5,000' to 10,000'. Then in your larger cities you find your incredibally long runways that reach up to 14,000'. I used cities to compare the size of the runway but it actually all goes down to what type of aircraft are landing at that specific airport. The larger the aircraft the longer it takes to speed up on take-off or slow down on landing so naturally you will need a longer runway. Happy Holidays!!

How do you think airline transportation has changed the past 50 years?

well it all depends upon the type of aircraft and the speed it can land at , for example the boeings , the airbuses do need 3.5 km to land and that is why most of the runways are 4 km long , but then if u talk about the fighter planes , the sukhoi and the like they require something close to 6 miles to land ,

For all of you pilots, pilots-in-training(PIT's as I like to call them) is it bad to solo after x months?

Depends upon the airport. I learned to fly at a small local airport with a 1,600 foot runway. Large airports typically have one or more 10,000 foot runways. Edwards AFB in CA has at least one that is over 6 miles long.

can you go right into the air force as a pilot with no training or license?

It really depends on whether it's for commercial aviation or general aviation. Check out www.airnav.com and put in a city or airport code (ICAO) and you can get runway information.

Single engine airliners?

The approximate length of a runway can be determined by knowing roughly how far it is between the numbers. Since the numbers are at the approach and departure ends, knowing how far apart these numbers are will give you the approximate length. There is so much difference in length of runways, you must be more specific as to which one. The shortest in Oklahoma is Runway 18-36 at Broken Arrow 89th Street Airpark at 1225 feet. The longest is Clinton-Sherman AFB at 13,503 feet.

Why are planes' cabin lights switched off at take-off and landing during hours of darness?

depends on the type of aircraft. some are as short as 1000 feet (small airstrip) and some are as long as 15,000 feet (NASA's Space Shuttle Landing Facility, Cape Canaveral Flordia). tbe Shuttle Landing Facility is (as far as I know) the longest runway in the world
