Ground speed can be less, depending on wind, lighter loads and STOL types need lower takeoff speeds. They can take off slower, but that's a typical initial speed after starting to rotate at 165kias.

(These figures are for a 747-400 at MTOW, other jets are similar, they all have to get off the same runways and 180kias is about 200mph... not that we should believe what simulators do... but one version of x-plane is certified by the FAA and Transport Canada when used with a MOTUS full motion platform).

The bigger the jet, the faster it has to go to take off...but on the average lift-off speed for commercial jets is 160 knots, or about 185 miles per hour.
It *looks* slower than that because jets are big, that's all :)

An airspeed of 160 kts to 180kts sounds about right. Its not just the size of the aircraft but the weight and the wing loading. Some smaller lighter aircraft have a higher take off speed than the average airliner. Small wings and a higher wing loading will result in a higher speed required for lift.

The speed is an optical illusion. When two aircraft are traveling at the same speed, the longer one will look like it is going slower than the smaler one. This is because for any given point the space that the aircraft passes through, the longer one will pass through it for a greater period of time. Even an airliner flying at a faster speed will appear slower than a small jet flying at a slower speed.
