Question:
I collect hats and I saw a United Airlines pilot's cap for sale online. I seem to remember after the September 11th attacks it became illegal to buy and sell commercial airline uniforms (including caps) because they could be used by terrorists posing as airline employees. Does anyone know if this is true? I don't want to buy something illegally.
Answers:
How often do they change the tires on a jet airliner?
Once the initial purchase of the uniform is made by an airlline employee, it is their property and not required to be turned in to the company upon termination for any reason. So, it stands to reason that if any former employee can own the pieces, then it can be legally transferred to anyone who has never been in an airline's employment. It is the security badge (which must be immediately turned in upon termination) which confers the status. That sounds ridiculous.
A uniform is not what gets a pilot, steward or other personnel into areas for them only.
They are protected by keys and key codes.
How much does a boeing 737-700 cost exactly in US dollars?
There is no bar to buying or selling airline uniforms in the US -- any more than there's a bar to cops uniforms. Anyone with minimal tailoring skills could make up a phony one anyway.Airport security is not based on the uniform one is wearing, but the ID badges they are carrying, and they passcodes they know for the locks.
how many international airlines are there?
Christopher,Sorry to tell you this, but no it's not illegal to sell a pilots, fireman, police, chef or any body else's cap or hat.
