This question arose after reding Dan Brown's book Angels and Demons. The jet in the book is real and if you were to go from Australia to Europe FOR EXAMPLE is there any chance that you would be able to live the same hour twice? Taking into account the different time zones?

It wouldn't really be the same hour. Time is a human concept and the measurement of it is made by humans - but that hour would need to be "repaid" at some stage eg when you returned to the previous time zoneflying to the east at a high rate of speed. SR-71 Blackbird or space shuttle could reach those speeds

It is very possible to live the same hour twice. All you have to do is fly west and the time moves backwards. Probably the easiest place to do this will be by crossing the date line (which runs down the middle of the pacific ocean). By moving across this line from the west to the east (say from Australia to Hawaii) you move back almost a whole day. f course you'd lose the same amount of tme going the other way so unless you stay at the destination you won't gain any timeI guess if you were right on the edge of a time zone and spent one hour in one and then drove across into the other time zone you could essentially spend the same "hour" but it wouldn't actually be the same hour of your life. It would just look like that on your watch.

Seriously, to live the same hour twice you would be artificially extending your life span in theory to infinity, and there is no way you can do that.

Nb. You have to fly east to west as flying west to east you're actualy going backwards in time. Eg. When it's 10am in London, it's (say) 6pm in India - so it's no good going that direction!

you cannot literally turn back time, only live that our again. for example i went on a connecting flight from atlanta to hunstville and we went back an hour. but you just go further back in the time zone so you get much more jet lag then you would do normally. its horrible.I recently flew from eastern Russia to Canada and managed to land11PM one half hour before I took off. It was because of time zones difference between kazakhstan and Turkey.
