I'm taking anything that comes from the Seattle press with a grain of salt. The US has a huge history of using FUD to fight rivals and the 787 is seen as a rival to the A380 even though it hasn't even had it's first flight yet. Plenty of time left to Boeing to have their own little disasters. In the end both will succeed in their chosen special sections of the market.
