i have done both and other things that fly as well.it all depends on what the reason is for the flight. if you want to see a certain place well like a small lake or a house from the air then a helicopter is best.
if you don't have a particular place your attempting to fly over then a balloon is great . in a balloon you will find that the thing goes up and there is no feeling that you have moved . it is only if you look down that you see how high you have come.
the same is with the motion forward backward and down.
as well if you go in a balloon out in the country side take along a motion camera because you may get lucky and see animals reaction to the thing it is amazing the animals see a balloon as a monster of something and run around like mad. this is why there are laws about how high a balloon must be over a heard of cattle mostly milk cows.
well all in all i would say the balloon was great fun but one thing is that i wish i had taken some sort of gps with me as i flew over two huge pot farms and because there is not the sense of motion i had no idea how to get back to them when we landed.

Helicopter, more control, especially when heading towards power lines, I like commercial jet liners the best, when they're up at altitude with the engines "Turning and Burning", that's when they are the most reliable, and air travel is most comfortable, besides 500 knots per hour is way cool !Hot air ballon, this is because it's extremely peaceful, almost like floating in the air. When the fire is turned on, it's quite loud, but those are done in short bursts. Most of the time you are just floating. Helicopter on the other hand is quite noisy and you don't quite get the full 360 degree view whenever you want unless you are the pilot controlling the copter.
I wouldn't want to ride...I'd rather fly the chopper...

depends on the mood. I like ballons when im really calm and stuff and just want to take pics, but for an adreniline rush, my uncle was a vietnam chopper pilot and now flies stunt choppers...very fun indeed.Virgin Atlantic says this about laptops on its aircraft:?

Flying in the air, by any means, is great fun for most pilots, and I've never known a fixed-wing or helicopter pilot who hesitated to hop into my basket.did they have comercial airlines in the mid to late 60's?
