The boeing 747 is not going to be retired anytime soon. They are still updating and improving the 747 with new versons. The newest that is being developed now, is the boeing 747-8.
The 747 is the most popular and well known aircraft, and one of the most sucessfull aircrafts ever produced. The boeing company would not even think of retireing it anytime soon -- the future of the company partially depends on the 747. New versons will always be ordered by airlines because they have the strong sucessfull background.
