Don't be scared. Airlines are safe. Its the ride to the airport you should be worried about. Just think about this. Every time a plane crashes they show it on the news. Now think about if every time there was a car wreck they showed it on the news. Every one of every day. I lived overseas the first 10 years of my life and my family flew from Dubai, UAE back to good ol Oklahoma every summer for those 10 years. It was two eight hour flights and an hour flight from Dubai to here and then we went back at the end of the summer. Never any problems what so ever. I fell in love with flying and now I'm a 100 hour private pilot with instrument rating. All that flight time and no major problems. Flying is safe. Just enjoy the ride! :-)

I am afraid, too. And I get myself all worked up and nothing happens. If you are of legal drinking age, don't drink before boarding thinking it will calm your nerves, it makes it worse. You have to remember that the pilot and flight attendants have flown thousands upon thousands of miles and they are still alive and well and loving their jobs (well, except for United Airline flight attendants, they're not so nice). Try to relax, close your eyes, put on your mp3 player with your favorite music (when you are allowed to) or bring a portable DVD player. Anything that you can find that relaxes you and can take your mind of what can happen.

It's ok to fly. Most deaths in aircraft are fire related, so you really should have fears of burning to death. And if you do survive the fire its a given that you'll have lifelong survivors guilt and will be a basket case and will likely do a public television documentary interview on the crash 20 years from now. But would you really want to be alive after such trauma? Many burn victims often say they'd rather have died.Profiling? So What? From a pilot's point of view...?

airplane are very safe in fact the drive to the airport is the most dangerous part. airplane are put through a very extensive inspection at a minium of once a year this is called an annual inspection if the aircraft is for hire then it is inspected once every 100 hours. and the pilots go through a very rigours flight training programStatistically you are more apt to die in your bathroom than on an airplane.
If you're one who can't understand how it's possible to take a big ol' metal thing and make it actually fly, try not to worry about it. Trust in the engineers who invented it and have "perfected" it over the last century... and think of other technologies we use everday without understanding them, like TV, or cell phones, or the Internet!
