P51, The F-22 has a ways to go before it proves itself.as far as WW2, the p-51 mustang. modern day, i'd say either the f-15 or the new JSF which has the speed of an f-16 the range of an f-18, the maneuverability of an f-14, and the vertical takeoff ability of a harrier. there are versions being worked on for navy, air force, and the marines.

I have my bias's but the C-130 herk has been in production for over 50 years now, and are still being built today. I believe this is because it is the most versital aircraft ever built. It can be modified to do just about any kind of work. Air drops, troop jumps, refueling, or even combat.
