The 787 is awesome, but so is the A380. Indeed both manufacturers (Airbus and Boeing) have good products and this is shown by sales/orders of a range of aircraft to various customers worldwide.Your question doesn't mention anything about Airbus but any talk of the 787 will draw in Airbus and the A380 - the two aircraft (787/A380) were launched with differing views on the future of air travel....but now we see Airbis launching the A350XWB in response to the 787 and Boeing launching the newer 747 (a freighter version, but no doubt a passenger version will come along) in response to the A380.

Don't let production delays and political/business screw ups at Airbus distract you from what will be a fantastic aircraft. Remember that Boeing has also suffered numerous scandals over the last 6 years and is seeking to rebuild the reputation they've lost (they'll no doubt regain it in my view).

I think Boeing got it right, as they have so many times. It looks like it may be the right plane for a lot of companies. Pilots are ecstatic!I have had experience with McDonnell-Douglas and Airbus but most of my experience has been with Boeing products and while the others build good equipment I have preferred Boeing. I hope this is the homerun they need.
