I also live in Michigan (near detroit) and with 10% tint on both of my vehicles, I have never been pulled over. I am not certain what the law is, but Ive had no problem. I have even been pulled over for speeding, and the cop said nothing about my tint.

Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows: Any darkness can be applied 4" inches from the top of the window.
Back Side Windows: Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window: Any darkness can be used.
