WHAT happens is that the sending unit that tells you if your tank is F or E gets altered so that it reads that you have more Fuel, Also it might allow you to get that last little sip of gas out of the tank that you wouldn't have been able to suck up with the vehicle level which would also give you a little farther driving range, but not better mileage.

It's much more effective if you lower the front end at the same time. But the best is if you install leveling controls so that you can control it for the type of slope you're on. :)

In reality, a lift kit is likely to reduce your gas mileage because it will disrupt aerodynamic tuning of the body design (assuming there is at least some) by presenting more of the top surface to the wind that is coming directly at the front of the vehicle (in a relative sense).
