Is there any way to make my 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora more gas efficient?

I know that the 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora has a feature that when it overheats it alternates between the first 4 cylinders and the other 4 cylinders i wish i could control that, maybe that way it wont cost me an arm and a leg for gas every week, Any ideas?
