Decent, cheap scooter?

Hello, I'm looking for a good, lower priced scooter. What would a good brand be? I'm in a college town, so I don't want to buy a car, and I think a scooter would be great.

I bought a new Yamaha Vino 125 for around $2,500 (plus tax,title, etc). Which come out to $130ish a month for two years. That is pretty cheap compared to a car, but it might not be "College Cheap."

Buying a Used Scooter would be cheaper, but in my experience, they are hard to come by. I guess they're too cheap and too easily stored, so people don't feel the need to get rid of them. You might want to do some Internet searches for "Scooter Clubs" in your area, to see if any of their members are selling a scooter.

How can I make an engine turn wheels?

Personally, I'd steer clear of e-bay scooters, and be wary of 49cc models. Sure they're cheaper, but they might not be allowed on public roads. Once again, I'd check with a local "Scooter Club," to see what the rules are, and how tightly local law enforcement keeps to them.

49cc 4-stroke scooters have a top speed of around 30-35 mph, and do not require registration or insurance in many states (check with your DMV). Check craigslist > for sale > motorcycles for used values. If you can twist a wrench, a China "crate" scooter might be an option.
