What's the difference?

Question:
Don't laugh at me... but seriously, I was wondering what the different Ds (shifts, gears?) in my car are for. And what's neutral for?

How can I make my wife not buy me any Christmas presents, as she uses my hard earned money to buy them?

Lame question, I know... but since I've been driving for four years now it's about time I know, right?

Answers:

What tint should I use?

not a lame question...the whole idea about asking a question is to get the answer..right?
The different 'D's are for the various 'Drives'-forward gears. I don't know what kind of car you have, but if it goes something like this - P,R,N,D,D3,D2,D1...or something similar then they mean as follows : P is for Park which locks the transmission so the wheels won't turn forward or reverse. R is for Reverse, which is for backing up. N is for Neutral, which then takes the transmission out of gear, giving the vehicle the ability to be pushed or towed. D (or sometimes labeled OD) is over-drive, which means the transmission will shift through 4 gears; 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Over drive. You don't want to use this gear if you are pulling a trailer, or going through steep, hilly roads. The second 'D' will shift through the just the first 3 gears, 3rd gear being the last, and the one you should be in if your pulling a trailer. 'D2 or 2' is for going down really steep hills, or pulling heavy loads. And finally 1st or 'D1' is for going up and down extremely steep hills or if your stuck...

any ideas how to get rid of kerosene smell in a vehicle?

Hope this helps!

what's teh average cost of taking driving classeS?

Nuetral=drive train not engaged car will not go. TwoD's one is overdrive the other D1 or however its marked as is lower gear drive. By the way you can use the D1 for normal driving it won't hurt anything as long as you don't try to over rev the engine(top speed) . The d1 may result in less MPG since it will be in lower gear ratio. Other than that you should be fine.

Where is the dipstick on a 1996 Toyota RAV4, righthand drive, 3door. I know it is somewhere in the hood?

you have a stick right? if you have your car on neutral that mean u could push your car and and it's not on park. D4 is to drive on normal everyday driving if it's an auto some car have D3 D4 Ds, 1, 2 or whatever those are for driving uphill. if you feel like your car doesnt want to make it up the hill u could change it to a lower gear and it'll push your car up but it also will run your engine hard. gears are the D4 or D3 and whatever gear u put it in that's the gear that you're in. shifts it mean you're shifting it to the gear u want to shift to hahah

will my car will be tow if i have expire plate?

Well, you have an automatic. Neutral will allow you to push the car if it was broken down, etc., but it should not move if you are reving the gas and it is in neutral. 1 st gear is a low gear and can be used on steep hills/grades, in snow, etc.

Anyone know if shipping Gas for personal use is considered smuggling?

The circled D is your overdrive..The only time you would really need to use anything else would be to pull it into the regular D for pulling something like a trailer or climbing a hill or mountain...Really no use for nuetral unless you need to move the car by pushing or pulling it when it is not running..

im looking for a cheep low price used car?

n is no gear the 1st d is becouse you have a automatictrans with4 forward gears and the 1st d lets you use all 4 gears and the second one only lets you use three gears the reasoning is in town you dont need the 4th gera becouse you arnt driving that fast and it is like over drive for better milage on the highway . if you are towing somthing you should us the 2nd d the first one is to high of a geer
