Question:
I have never had a ticket before, and i was driving cause my mom seemed to be worried about her ailments acting up. I am not sure what to do. I know i was going fast, but as fast as the guy in front of me, i don't believe i was going 78 but 65-70 rather cause i look at my speedometer. I don't mind paying the fine and pleading guilty because i was going fast, but i don't want points on my license because i am the only one in my family who drives and cant afford to have my insurance go up to high. I don't know what to do, can i plead guilty and ask to not get points on the condition i take a class? I hate to not face up to my mess ups, but then again the consequence will make it hard for me and my family and i cannot risk that either. What can i do to avoid points on my license? I have only had my license for 3 years.

Unfortunately, the only real way to get out of a ticket is to plead with the cop BEFORE he/she writes it, once the ticket is written, your toast - game over. The traffic court system is designed that they are going to get their money out of you no matter what. Also, it doesn't matter why you were speeding or that you were speeding "just a little" - they don't care, there is absolutely no legal excuse for speeding, so don't waste your time (and make the judge more angry) by pleading not-guilty. What you can do is, first, if you have the option -always go to court! There is a small possibility the cop won't show up and your case will be dismissed. Second, if the cop is there - ask the judge for supervision, which means that you will pay the fine and if you don't get another ticket in 30 to 60 days, your record will stay clean. The last option is to go to traffic school, you pay the fine plus the class fee but usually the violation is kept off your record. The important thing is to not leave the court room without either supervision or the traffic school option so if the judge denies supervision, immediately ask for traffic school.
