Do smaller engines stay "healthier" in city traffic?

Question:
My grandfather once told me the bigger the engine, the more it needs highway cruising to stay clean, without carbon-buildup. My present car would have been available with a 3-Litre straight six or a 5.6-Litre V8. I chose the six, because I lumber around town 99% of the time, and figured that might be wise to keep a cleaner engine.
Is that still true though? The car is a 1990 model year, fuel-injected.
Thanks.

What's the most miles you've ever had on one of your cars?

it used to be real true when gas actually had lead in it,,you had to get them on the open road to clean them out once in a while,,but with today's cars, and the kind of gas were buying,,they stay pretty clean,,but it still don't hurt to get one on the open road once in a while and clean it out,,but the smaller engines do a lot better around in the city driving,,good luck i hope this help,s.
