Honda Element of Subaru Outback?

Question:
I do like the look of both, so that is not a issue. Here is what I need in a car...AWD or 4X4, room for a large dog, stain resistant (because of large dog), and gets good gas mileage (I work 37 miles from my house) I have narrowed it down to these two cars, any opinions? Or if you have any other models in mind let me know!

You can't go wrong with either car. The Subaru Outback is a very good reliable car and always ranked high with Consumer Reports. The down side to all Subarau's is that they use a flat or horizontal piston arrangement in their engines. Unless you know of a good mechanic that knows how to work on these cars your going to end up having to take it to the dealer. Lots of $$$. The Honda Element is an equally good car with similar realiability ratings as the Subaru but without the unique mechanical issue. It uses a straight veritcal four cylinder configuration. Between the two you've presented, I'd go with the Honda Element.
