Sure they have big bold commercials and yes they maybe good at copying american truck designs (The Tundra is almost a replica of the F-150) but as for me I dont want to get dirty with toyota. Toyota represents the vehicle for modern day hippies. Not that I am against good gas mileage or anything but the American Auto-Makers offer fuel efficient machines as well. Actually ford plans on releasing a truck that gets better gas mileage then a toyota prius in 2008 it is called a hydraulic hybrid. It is a sign of the great wealth and success of America that Toyota has gone this far.When you see the typical Toyota owner what you see is a person who couldn't care about anybody but them self, and who thinks they're the smartest person on the block. Actually if they did any research before they decided to buy, they would find out that Toyota quality isn't all that the common belief thinks it is. Toyota isn't friendly to the environment. Toyota has caused millions of Americans to loose their jobs, and the paltry few that Toyota hires in this country are just the low level grunts. All of the high paying jobs and all of the profits go to Japan.
I can't understand how a true American can drive down the street in a Toyota or Lexus without being embarrassed.

Well I totally disagree with you. I am a Toyota owner and I love my truck...it has 107,123 miles on it and has never seen a shop. The American cars IE.Ford Chevy pontiac..ext...yes have great cars, but there durability and how long they last are far worse then the Japanese cars.
While American makes have been getting better in the last few years, the records show that Toyota (and Honda) have made better cars and trucks.. It is nice of you to support the home team, especially when they seem to be the underdogs. The main advantage of American made is lower price and financing. If you were judging a car or truck by its qualities instead of by its name, you might agree.

Toyota has at least 20 years of proven reliability behind them. American automakers are RECOVERING from at least 20 years of proven UNRELIABILITY. It'll be a decade before they've won back the trust they lost. When there are hordes of 15 year old Fusions running around, they'll be trusted again.Also, American automakers are seriously lacking in fuel economy in many classes, but most notably in small cars.

Don't blame Toyota for the hole (possibly the grave) that Ford, GM, and Chrysler have dug for themselves. If you like the domestic product (and there are some good ones) fine, but that doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with Toyota, that the big 3 are in any way better than Toyota, or that other people should risk their money on the alleged turnaround in American quality.

Toyota makes a good vehicle, I have never seen any 4 cylinders get the mileage a Toyota gets, but im all american and own 3 american vehicles and 1 German. Toyotas are good. I give them credit to making a very good vehicle.The Japanese have a penchant for quality that was based on honor. After the war we taught them how to build auto factories and they put quality into it as our quality was going down hill.

Years ago I talked to a Japanese man who was a mechanic in the Malayan occupation forces. He said they loved the American vehicles they captured because they were indestructible.
America has the know-how, look at the turnaround Ford gave Jaguar. And from what I've heard the newer American vehicles are improving a lot; but Japan has a head start.

Chrysler is owned by Germany based Mercedes Benz, builds cars and trucks in Mexico and partners with Hyundai and Mitsubishi in engine design. Ford owns Mazda (Japan), Land Rover and Jaguar both built in England. GM uses chinese built engines in the Pontiac Torrent, sources from Honda V6 engines in the Saturn Vue and rebadges the Chevy Aveo from a Korean manufacturer. What are you gaining by this site? Working Class Americans!; Build Honda Accords, Nissan Sentras, Hyundai Sonatas, Subaru Legacy, BMW X5, Mercedes Benz ML, Toyota Camrys and Tundra trucks! Are these american people not worth your understanding and support? You may have your ideas and beliefs, but the Big 3 are way past this and understand very well the beneifts of global sourced automobiles and marketing... The foreign auto makers are opening plants in the U.S. while the Big 3 close them down. This is good for State goverment, american workers and the U.S. economy.

PS Most of the auto suppliers you mentioned also supply German and Japanese based auto manufacturers. They do not rely solely on the Big 3 for sales.. Also the average American worker in working in a japanese car plant in Ohio makes about par with a American worker in a GM plant in Michigan..
