Question:
They're NOT even supposed to be sounding thier horns anymore but they do it anyway! I guess they can't read. Isn't this supposed to be a quiet zone? I'm stuck living in these miserable old apartments until I can move to Colorado. Does any1 know how, why, when or IF this crap of the trains sounding their horns & staying stopped on the tracks with their noisy *** motors running all freaking nite so no1 can sleep will STOP.

What was your first car/truck? do you want to.....?
It is more "cost effective" to leave a locomotive's diesel engine run than to start and stop them. Like any other free enterprise business, if they thought it would save them money, the railroads would shut down the locomotive engines when not in use. This may sound like a flippant answer, but it is the reason. Is the 06 monte carlo LT any better than the 04 monte carlo ls??
As for the horns, they sound for safety reasons. They must be sounded when going over grade crossings to warn motorists of their approach, and they must sound them when changing directions (once = forward, two = reverse) to warn railroad workers who are working near them what to expect. They are required to do this, and I'm sorry that it bothers you, but they aren't going to stop using their horns. A courteous engineer would not blow the horn "full blast" at night as a way of showing respect to people in their homes who are sleeping.
Why do you drive on a park way and park in a drive way??
I don't know what you temps. have been getting down to at night there but usually in that area of the country the diesel fuel suppliers don't use a winter blend of diesel fuel. so they might be afraid of the fuel gelling up and the trains not starting in the morning.keeping the engines running keeps air pressure in the brakes and takes less time before it moves, sorry bout the noise
