Question:
my subaru is all wheel drive and i need to tow it will it be ok
Answers:
How can i find websites that advertise cars that transport dead people?
Well, yes, and no. Do not tow the all wheel fdrive with the wheels on the ground- even a short distance. Read your Owner manual!!If you can tow it any distance it will tell you in there.
Will we, the U.S., invent cars that can travel in time?
Modern transmissions to not pump oil from the driven side so towing the car the transmission is not pumping oil, thus it is not lubricating it's internal parts... would you drive the car with no oil in the transmission? Then don't tow it.
It has nothing to do with heat generated, or the engine cooling the transmission (which it doesn't do anyway...) it has everything to do with the fact that the transmission (automatics) is a hydraulicly driveen and lubricated device and the pump for that oil is not working if the engine is not running (and usually the transmission has to be in something other than park too!)
Yes, you can tow it. No problems.
If it is a manual trans.
1. It will not over heat, there is no cooler anyway
2. There are no "bands" in a manual.
If it is an automatic
1. You do not need to disconnect anything. Neutral is neutral. Thats what a transmission is for.
2. It still will not "overheat" because there is no friction in the transmission. It's not turning. The transfer case is turning and there is no cooler for that either.
tow away!
