Question:
I parked by accident in a residents parking bay that was not clearly marked - the beginning of the road was 'pay and display' (which I did, at a cost of £10!!) and then come back to find a nice £100 parking ticket. Anyone got any ideas? I feel particularly aggrieved to pay it because I paid for 4 hrs parking at 12.50; the street (including the residents bays) was all FREE after 1.30 - my ticket was issued at 1.19. Does anyone think that the parking people will have any pity on me that I innocently made the mistake (proven by paying £10 for parking ticket) or will they simply not care? Help!
Answers:
Doesn't matter about how clearly marked the bay was - the fact is it WAS marked!
Best you can do is to try and get your £10 ticket to help towards your fine. Good luck, and be more observant next time :-)

Take a few photos of the bays to show whether it was marked/signed properly. There is usually an address on the ticket to write to appeal to.
Send in a copy of the photos with the ticket explaining why you think you shouldn't have got the ticket.
Don't pay the fine until you hear from your appeal cos they won't give you your money back if it is upheld, you usually get a certain number of days/weeks to get an appeal in or the fine goes up.
If that doesn't work you can appeal to the parking adjudication authority.
