You definately need to be insured or if you get caught they will prosecute you and put six points on your licence, so don't chance it!You will also need the L plates but just get him to call his insurance company and put you on his policy as a named driver.
As long as he's been driving for three or more years and he's over 21 (which I very much suppose he is), then you can drive his veh with L plates, so long as he puts you as a named driver on his policy, which may cost some, but that's down to you and him.
Do I have to pay my insurance ticket if I drove an uninsured car while I owned another insured car?
He will have to put you on his insurance policy and they will probably charge him a fortune to do so !However it will be beneficial for you,if you consider the practise you can get while driving with your dad and offset that with the fewer lessons you will need to take at maybe £20 an hour,it would be worthwhile, providing your dad has the patience !
Good luck, hope you enjoy driving !
Your dad will have to add you to his insurance, and pay extra for it.
Going to take my licence test?
Just see your Dads face if you say you want to just put the plates up and drive! Yes you must be covered some insurance covers other drivers BUT not learners, a policy may also cover you to drive other cars but it would only be 3rd party,If you are a learner and you use L plates then it is fine to drive your dads car with him or anyone over the age of 22 who has been driving at least 2 years

Your dad needs to put you on his insurance in order for you to drive his car. If you are provisional because of your age (16 - 18). If you have a Provisional Licence, then you can drive any car within the categories stated on your licence - but you MUST be insured to drive that car. Of course, being a learner driver you must have a qualified driver with you at all times. You must have insurance as a learner driver, and the person teaching you must have held a full driving lisence for at least 2 years.

Where can I find information about gas mileage requirements in the U.S.?
Yes, you most certainly must have insurance, and you must state that you are a learner driver and that could cost your dad a tidy sum of money...to be honest it's not always a good idea to have a relation try to teach you to drive, especially in todays traffic. When is a vehicle classed as collector In Canada?
There are two different questions here, From a license point of view you can drive any car providing you are accompanied by a person who has a full driving license for at least 3 years and the car shows L plates front and rear. The insurance is a separate matter. You must be insured to drive the vehicle you are in, even if only third party. With a driving school they automatically insure their vehicles to cover all their pupils. As regards your dads car he will have to get you added to his policy as a named driver. As you are young and only a learner he might have to pay a substantial premium to get you added to his policy.Until he asks his insurance Co. he won't know. With the insurance in place, with L p lates fitted and dad in the passenger seat off we go.I want my own personalised registration plates..?
He has to put you as a named driver on his insurance policy. If you bring your dog in a car with leather seats will they wreck the seats in any way?
100%. If he doesn't add you to his policy (which can cost a lot) and you get caught that's 6 points. If you have a full licence you can only get 6 points in the first two years (after the two years probationary period its 12) and they take your licence off you. And points last for 3 years. So if you get that while still provisional it's possible you could be banned for a certain amount of time.Yes you can as long as he gets insurance for you.
He should be fully comprehensive for his car insurance and then have you aded. He needs to tell the insurance company that you are a learner aswell
He also needs to have held a full licence for at least three years himself.
And you also need the L plates puttting on the front and back of the car.
