Is a DUI conviction on a Riding Lawnmower really fair?

Question:
One of my friends lives in Oregon in the country and was partying at a house a while back. Instead of walking home, he took a riding lawnmower on the shoulder of the road and consequently got a DUI. The road isn't even that heavily traveled at all and the lawnmower doesnt go fast. Long story short, his licence is gone for FIVE years. Damn Oregon came down on him hard.

What can you do (anything and everything) to make your car pass emisisons testing.?

DUI - Driving Under the Influence
"Oregon drivers face a license suspension ranging from 90 days to three years for failing or refusing a breath or blood test. An Oregon DUII conviction will result in a driver's license suspension of one or three years, or a lifetime suspension. Oregon DUII laws are some of the strictest in the country, making it critical that one contact a qualified Oregon DUI defense attorney immediately if accused of drunk driving or any DUII related offense." http://www.1800duilaws.com/states/or.asp...

Are you allowed to drive a electric scooters?

"Some Oregon-specific facts about DUII: "Driving" covers a multitude of activities, including riding a bicycle, operating a riding lawnmower, riding a horse, and so on.
One does not need to be actually driving to be cited, as long as police have probable cause to put you behind the wheel of a vehicle.
People have been cited for DUII who were sleeping in the back of a vehicle at a rest stop. People have also been cited for DUII while walking away from a parked vehicle, with the keys in their pocket." http://www.or-drunkdrivinglawyer.com/sta...

What is a stick shift?

He was driving something with a motor, and he was on a public roadway. Damned right it is fair. In Roumania you didn't get a 5 year suspension, you got the firing squad, so, in comparison, he got lucky. He was also lucky he didn't get killed in a collision with another vehicle. We are long past the days when operating any kind of vehicle drunk is considered anything but idiotic.

He's on a public road, he is intoxicated, so it IS DUI, enough said.

Should have crashed at the friend's couch, or called a taxi, or got a ride from someone sober. Too bad. It does sound a bit harsh, but it's better than drifting into the road, causing someone else to crash and killed.

Do you need a drivers licence to operate a forklift?

It NOT that tough though. In Indiana, DUI crash resulting in death, got a guy 8 years in state prison, when he crashed into a tree, killing his passenger, a 15-yr old girl. (What's really sick is at the sentencing, he tried to blame the parents for "letting her ride with me")

Ignition keys with a chip are too large to carry around?

Remember the "beheaded passenger" story? It's true. Two best buddies out of high school partied, and both had a few beers too many. They got into pickup and drove off. One guy had head outside the window, threw up, and promptly passed out with head still lolling outside the window. The other guy managed somehow to got the truck home. He was so out of it he didn't even check his friend. He somehow unlocked the door, closed the door, crashed into bed, and passed out. Next morning, neighbor found the HEADLESS body of a guy in the passenger seat of the truck and called police. Entire right side of truck is scraped. The driver had apparently drove too close to one of those angled steel cables that anchors many telephone and light poles. At 20+ MPH, the steel cable shaved off both the right side mirror... and the passenger's head. The guy was roused from his sleep and arrested, and upon learning he had killed his best friend, was so devastated he was placed on suicide watch in jail. And no, I did NOT make this up. This was a true story.
