VW Rabbit. VWs are so popular today and they're SO safe with side air bags and side-curtain air bags in addition to frontal air bags.Ooooo ... dangerous. I drive a 1976 Mini 1000 (nope, not a Cooper but still pretty darn cute). Wabbits have a tendency to blow their gaskets prematurely, from what I've heard.

The Rabbit is an economy car, and the GTI is VW's sporty compact.Meanwhile, there's the Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S, with the latter being the performance version. And what transmission are you interested in? I like sticks, but they're not for everyone. Generally, low-performance economy cars are sluggish with automatics. And sporty cars are great with sticks. The GTI has an electronic manual that you can leave on automatic or shift yourself. And the Cooper S is known as a rollerskate due to its handling abilities, not to discount the GTI. But only you can know what's right for you. I say, though, if you're getting the economy versions, the Cooper is more interesting.

hmmmn. After it's bought u would have to maintain it or not? The VW would be better to get parts cheaper. But what do I know. There are more "wabbits" so there may be more used parts if u are really slumming it. Both are good on tires gas brakes. those things that are always wearing out.

I go for the mini, but the VW is also a fine car.First, are we talking regular rabbit and mini cooper? Or gti and mini cooper S? In either case, the VW will get slightly better acceleration and slightly worse handling than the equivalent mini. The VW has a lot more room (in fact, the mini is so tight that it is physically impossible for me, at 6'2", to sit behind the wheel - at least it was a few years back when I tried). Looks? I like them both, and despite being a rabbit owner, I couldn't pick one over the other. Minis may or may not be more reliable, but their parts are likely to be more expensive. Finally, as far as I can tell, Minis are a few thousand dollars more expensive than the equivalent VW. Long story short: I would get a gti over just about any other sport compact, including the mini S. As for regular mini vs. rabbit, I'd personally go with the rabbit because it keeps the performance without compromising on the other things (room, price, safety, etc), but I admit the mini will probably turn more heads.
