honest man the only way to cheat is not do it. if your car won't pass. it won't pass. Beleive me I tried everything for my old beater and should have just gotten the neccsary part to begin with. make/model/year, and what it failed for would be helpful, but unless it came close to passing, "tricks" probably wont help. if you want to try again without taking it to a mechanic, try an oil change, make sure its warmed up well, as a previous user said, dont take it in on a very hot day, dont have a full tank of gas (important), inflate the tires to max(if dyno test is done).Sometimes you can lean out the carb and it will help it pass. It may not run too good, but after the test, go ahead and readjust the carb.

depending on the year and model, I would check a few things.1.when is the last time you replaced the oxygen sensor? If never, these need changing out at approx 60k miles. (these regulate the air/fuel mixture going into the motor, if wornout, you mixture could be to olean or rich, either one will make your car fail)
