recently i was pulled over and was informed that a warrant was out for my arrest. after turning myself into the police i was informed that someone failed to provide a license and gave my name in a traffic stop. as i met with the commissioner to get bail i ws given info on date,time,place and license plate number. can i find out who owns this car?

How could there be a warrant for you when they didn't have any information, how many people have the same nave as you? depending on what state you live in, license plate information is public information and you can goto the DMV, give them the license plate number and pay a small fee and they should send you the information via snail mail. if you were not the owner of the car, and the driver did not provide correct information, your not liable, they have to prove it was you driving that vehicle. it's the policeman's responsibility to check the information of the driver, if he did not have identification, then by law he should have been taken into custody. sounds like someone is pawning their mistake off onto you. they cant just issue a warrant for your arrest based on someone being pulled over and giving your name, names are not unique, this could have been a guy with the same name as you. make sure you get a compitent <sp?> lawyer or public defender, if you pay for a lawyer, you should consider sueing the police officer/state for unlawful arrest and maybe even defamation of character.How do you know if a car is front wheel or rear wheel drive?
