Question:
the driver window is more than off track, the front of the window drops down into the door panel and the back of the window sticks straight up in the air
Answers:
How do you scrap a car these days?
Take the door panel off and straighten it up, but it will probably go off track again as soon as you roll it down again.I have a '97 Civic with manual windows and they're off track, too.
Where do I find work in the automotive or airline industry for my age, 49?
You need to remove the panel from the door. Look for any screws holding the door on and then remove them. After all the screws have been removed there are clips that just push in that hold the rest of the door on. Go around the edge of the door and pull these tabs out. You must do this carefully because the backing on the panel is just cardboard and on a car that is as old as your you will just rip those tabs out of the cardboard and your panel will not go back on. They make a special tool for removing these clips but you can also use the nail puller side of a hammer and get the tab in that part and then pry them out. Once you pull one out you will see what I'm talking about. Then you should be able to put the glass back on the track or replace anything that needs to be replaced. You need a new window regulator. They aren't expensive, but are a pain to change. You might consider having that professionally done.
The window regulator holds the window in the door and moves it up and down. They are available on the Internet, but if there is a discount auto body parts store in your area, that is the route I would go. Its usually not too good to get one at the junkyard, especially if you are gonna keep it.
