Cars and police.?

Question:
Why are cars built to drive so fast? Wouldnt it SAVE alot of lives and stop ALOT of criminals? I guess they would lose too much money from speeding tickets. Does it really take that much brains to make vehicles that dont go faster than 100kph? Are humans really this dumb? How about making the oil filter easier to get to?

saving fuel when driving?

Personally I'd rather die in a painful, bloody highway crash than have the government regulate how fast or how much horsepower my vehicle can have, at least to a greater extent than they already do. Many manufacturers also put voluntary speed and horsepower limits, notably European and Japanese respectively.

I need a website to find my exact car color.?

And studies have shown that cars with 200 or more horsepower get in lesser accidents on average than their lower powered counterparts although this may be due to the increased braking and suspension performance that normally accompanies higher engine performance, the increased experience and skill that most drivers who have more powerful cars possess, or simply the fact that the extra power lets them scoot out or harm's way, I'd say a combination of all three but take away one and the rest suffer.

They say the Lexus RX330 runs best on premium gasoline... would it still work with regular?

I would rather the government focus on promoting vehicles that operate on hybrid or green fuels and let the performance levels go were they may.

Honda Prelude help me pimp it out?

P.S: the oil filter is hard to get to so you are forced to take your vehicle to a shop, preferably an authorized one so that the car company gets more $ out of you, also all the increased technology makes things more crowded but that's probably a secondary reason.

I broke my car key off in the door and don't live close to any locksmiths?

Point taken, it's just my personal opinion, maybe the laws should change, not the cars. The German Autobahn is proven to be safer than US highways and they have no speed limits whatsoever.
Numerous deaths occur at speeds much lower than that which is legal on American highways. Especially incidents involving pedestrians they are just as vulnerable to a 35 mph crash as a 70 mph crash.
Really it comes down to the driver and their discretion, a machine only does what the operator tells it to, as the saying goes; "Guns don't kill people, People kill people"

A Question For Americans about cars?

The problem here is free will...if we dictate to the world exactly what they can eat, drink, drive and let there be no deviation then we lose freedom. Unfortunately for that freedom innocent people get hurt or worse. Most cars today have a governer on them that limit them to less than 120 MPH which is about 195kph.

would any body know what software mercedes use to de-restrict there 06 sprinter vans?

But 100kph is actually less than the speed limit on most highways here. I personally like the suggestions for adding a complete shut off that police can use on cars that run. Its just a remote switch the police would have the ability to shut the car down, but the car retains steering and braking abilities.

just exactly how far is a piece down the road lol ?

You are correct, this is actually a very sensible suggestion. There is almost no justifiable reason, especially since I believe most cars actually do have a speed limit built into the electronic ignition management system.
I worked with a guy who I suspect had adjusted the the maximum capable speed limit of his mother's car. I know he got caught driving the car above the legal threshold of the radar camera which snapped him (DUH!!), I left before I found out the result of his court case, but the point is it isn't difficult to tweak the limit, so it proves the limit can be lowered.
In regards to tickets, don't forget many tickets are issued for speeds lower than the legal highway / motorway / openroad maximum, so just limiting the maximum capable speed alone won't stop that source of income for the Government / Police. In addition, if the police see a vehicle exceeding the maximum capable speed (even by a small amount) they would be able to impound it, have a speed limiting device added to the car at the owners expense, then fine him for driving an unmodified car.
My experience is most drivers (and I don't exclude myself here) are incapable of making consistent rational decisions regarding what is a safe speed. I have worked as a Bus Driver for 6 years with (thank you God) no fatal accidents, so I am qualified to state my views.
I realise there are situations were people will claim the extra speed is needed, but I think the lives saved would justify the expense.
