If you are smart, you will also get tanks, and haz- mat. Most of the test is common-sense, but the haz-mat is the most difficult of them. If you are considering a career in over-the-road, you will most likely need haz-mat to get your first job. Incidentally, you also need to have a background check done by Homeland Security for the haz-mat, get that done early, as it takes a couple of months to get it back, you'll need it before the endorsement will be put on your license.
The written test is mostly just recall from the book, there isn't as much trick questions on it as you would expect. The driving test consists of backing (two of the three tests outlined in your book), and a ride consisting of at least five miles, in a truck. You will be expected to be able to recall what signs say(pay attention to them as you pass them), and operation of the truck. The outline for scoring is in the book.
