What is the difference between a turbo and a super charged engines?

Wat will you choose lancer evo 8 or the subru sti?

a turbo uses exhaust to turn a compressor/rotor vain to build intake pressures to increase cylinder pressure to make more power than a aspirated engine.a supercharger uses a belt off the crankshaft to turn a set of rotors in a case to build intake pressure to increase cylinder pressure to make more power than a aspirated engine.turbo power is from a free source,as it doesnt rob the engine of power to turn it.a supercharger robs power as it is turned by the crankshaft.turbos also are slower to make this power, called turbo lag.superchargers are direct off of engine rpm and make power immediatly.

Is there anyway to remove waterspots off car windows?

Super charger is belt driven, which will require a certain amount of hp from your engine. Turbocharger is not belt driven.

Does anyone know what a Smart car is like to drive in snow and ice conditions?

they both pump air into the engine, the turbo is driven by the exhaust and the supercharger is driven off the engine, usually by a belt or gears.

at what age did you get your first car? brand new or second hand??

A turbo charger uses exhaust gases to drive a turbocharger that forces more air/gasoline mixture into the cylinders. A supercharger is belt driven to do the same thing. Usually, a supercharged engine has power more instantly available without what is known as "turbo lag".

why do big bulldozers have tracks instead of wheels?

a turbo charged engine uses heat from the exhaust system to force air back through the engine and make more horse power, but its using hot air to do this with,a super charger uses fresh air and the air isn't introduced in to the engine until it needs it or its opened up,this works much more better and produces a high amount of horse power it has been said that with the right gear ratio there is no limit to the top end of a vehicle with a good super charger on it,i doubt that this is true, but a super charger is the best and only way to go,good luck i hope this help,s.

1964 E Type Jag?

A super charged engine (or a blower) is driven off of the engine's crankshaft by a belt and uses some of the engine's power to drive it. A turbo charger is driven by what would be normally wasted energy of the exhaust and doesn't really pull any power from the engine to drive it. In short a turbo is more efficient but there is usually a slight delay from when you press the gas and when you actually get a response from the engine (usually less than one second).

employee car pooling?

The difference is, who gets the pink slip? Take the turbo and juice the engine with NO. Don't forget the over-rev kill switch and timing chip. Wear your seatbelt !!

Who knows a shipping company that ships from Central America to Europe?

Turbo is driven by exaust gasses and presurize air out of the system into the intake manifold. It usually works better with an intercooler to get cool air into the intake system.

why does my car roll up gravity hill?

Supercharger is belt driven. Have you seen the First Mad Max movie. His car had a huge super charger on. It basically does the same thing as a turbo.

tax on 4x4s?

That is how it work but you get people who believe the one is better than the other. It is down to taste. A supercharger give a much better boost at lower rev's because it runs at a lower rpm than a turbo. I personally like the whine of a turbo when you get to the 5000+rpm range but I must say that a supercharger sticking out from under the hood is a awesome sight.

Why is this Group so down on new Diesel vehicles--especially if they can run on biodiesel?

A supercharger is a purely mechanical device to compress air or air fuel mixture into an internal combustion engine.'
As with the turbo it does much the same thing, but it uses the heat and volume in the exhaust system to do this.
Both are not very un friendly too manual transmissions , as the operator can shift faster than the spool in a turbo can react..
A well tuned turbo can operate at an excess of 50000 RPM creating at least 40PSI of boost , one wrong shift on a high performance turbo can send this thing straight Thur the fire wall .
At 50000 you wouldn't even enough time to even think **** me.
Both devices have a rotten side effect of increasing the intake air charge temperature to the engine.
