Question:
What is it about Rear/All wheel drive vechicles that make them so much better than Front wheel drive cars?
Does anyone understand the new car tax rates?
How much more expensive is it to produce rear wheel drive thatn front wheel drive, if there isn't a big cost difference, why not make more vechicles RWD/AWD

Because FWD is prone to understeer (and RWD - to oversteer) FWD is much easier to operate for underqualified driver. The natural driver's response to loss of control - slamming on brakes - works well on FWD and leads to catastrophe on RWD. The vast majority of drivers all over the world are underqualified, thus the abundance of FWD vehicles.RWD requires more skill to drive safely, but it is able to demonstrate better handling and performance when driven properly.
Theory test and hazzard perception?
AWD is a very special case, mainly showing it's advantages on off-road driving. Its huge popularity is due to the marketing move associating AWD with safety on slippery roads. This is a myth, but it sells pretty well :)
Is a market for front wheel drive cars, as they supposedly have better gas mileage and such. Also rear drive is supposedly better, as the drivetrain can handle much more horsepower, and torque...As I know some will try to argue that. Ask them about those CV axles that keep snapping... Anyways. Is overall a preference of people to get either of those you mentioned.
Basically the reason rear wheel drive is "better" is because only one set of wheels is responsible for one task, the front wheels do the steering and the back wheels do the accelarating. Front wheel drive is cheaper to make because less parts need to go through the leghth of the car, from the engine to the rear wheels (assuming you have a front engine rear drive car). For the average consumer a front wheel drive vechicle is safer because of the extra weight over the front wheels you get increased traction on wet roads

RWD better balances weight distribution, doesn't require the drive wheels to steer the car as well, allows for better traction due to weight shifting from front to back when you launch the car, and when used properly gives better control. Society has gone to mainly FWD cars due to ease of assembly, and primarily ease to drive, RWD cars require better judgement and in our generally stupid society its easier to give people FWD cars. AWD combines many of the benefits of both with the biggest drawback being complexity and thusly cost of service, and loss of gas milage due to the added weight and rotating parts being hauled around uselessly when not accelerating.More Questions & Answers ...
