Is there a way of avoiding the car rental 'drop charge' fee in the US?

Question:
Rental car companies charge a 'drop charge' when returning a car to a location different from the pickup location.
I need to drive from Orlando, Florida to New York City. Are there any options to rent a car without having to pay the ridiculously expensive 'drop off charge'?

Answers:

Any interesting cars I can research on?

You can ask the company if there is a car that needs to be returned from Orlando to New York. You would be taking the car on a one way to return another locations car back to them. Usually you would have to give a lot of advance notice if they will even do this. These cars need to get back to the original location because of an ownership issue. That is why they charge so much to move a car back.

Why is jcb company identity yellow?

If ya rent from Hertz be sure & fill the car before you take it back. I got inside the gate & didn't realize their gas would cost about $9.00 per gallon. Coincidentally, there was a gas station right across the street with gas for less than $3.00 a gallon.
