Is it more efficient to refuel your car during the night or early in the morning than in the middle of the day

Question:
i live in a tropical country and they say that during noon time (most probably the hottest time of the day) gasoline/diesel fuels are less dense. so some adviced me to refuel either early in the morning or at night so i can get more fuel out of my money.

I heard this too, back in high school auto mechanics shop. This was during the energy crises. The cooler the fuel is, the less volume it displaces, theoretically. In practice the difference is there but very slight.

With gasoline by nature being so close to evaporation at normal temperatures, it is more prone to expansion than water. So there will be more gasoline in a gallon pumped at cooler temperatures than that of a gallon pumped while the pump, hose, and nozzle of the gas dispenser have been warmed by the sun. It's also why during a hot day many vehicles can stall from "vapor lock."

If you rent a car from a rental company can my wife drive it without paying for a extra driver?

Another tip back then was to fill your tank at the slower pump rate, to avoid oxygenating the fuel through turbulence. The more air the gas absorbs, the more volume it will displace.

Dont you just hate it when people put rims on expensive cars?

In both cases while there may actually be a difference, the differences are so very slight that it's not significant enough to affect your fuel economy.

Im looking to buy a Toyota Hilux (import) 1994 just wondering if anyone knows how much the tax will be?

I still fill my tank at the trickle rate, though! Just a habit.

Electric car continuation?

Yeah that sounds good but the fuel is in an underground storage tank where the tempature remains fairly constant so density is the same at noon or midnight.

If I had a car accident, and having no license at age 17, what could be my charge?

As with any liquid, heat causes expansion lessening the density. So if where you live is so hot that it heats the ground to about 80 or 90 degrees Fahrenheit at a depth of around 10 feet, then yes, you are better off fueling in the cooler hours of the day and keeping you vehicle in the shade when it's full, otherwise it may POP.

Can you use coffee grounds to fuel a car?

the density of the fuel will not differ due to time of day unless its stored above ground where the heat of the sun might make it less dense. fueling at night would reap some benefits due to less evaporation during the re-fueling process. to take advantage of the savings, there would need to be huge extremes of temperature between the hottest and coolest times of the day as well as being able to measure the temp of the fuel in the storage tanks. in theory, yes some benefit is possible; in reality, no savings that would be noticable at all as the difference will be so slight either way. you would have to use the fuel at the equator and purchase it at the poles to even be able to get a measurement on the difference in density. just as a question..interesting. in reality...a total waste of your time to worry about it.

What will happen?

it dont matter just dont let it get under half tank cuz if it dose the fuel pump works harder

AS THE REFUELING CALCULATED - PAID BY VOLUME, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO FILL UP YOUR CAR AT THE TIME WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS THE LOWEST .
