While solar panels are a good start and more people going off grid, development of biodiesel, and other alternative fuels, we also need to open up the drilling in this country and put a mandate on it that it can not be sold over seas and it is to be used here in the sates only. Part of the problem with the price of oil is that we buy more than we need. We need to use what we have and not sell it. It is like growing tomatoes and selling all of them and then having to go to the store to go buy some. This needs to be stopped. Also with opec, if they want to screw us around with oil, stop giving them billions of dollars in hand outs every year. The U.S. has a federal petroleum reserve that can supply the nation with 3 months of gas without any imports. Really, there is nothing we can do. If we all start driving little lawnmowers and cut our use in half they would just double the price. In the UK a gallon is now about $9.00 plus we have road tax of about $300 per year, now we have city's that charge congestion charges and yet they are also taking about bringing in a new mileage tax. plus we have top everywhere to park and for parking permits outside our housesNow i believe that we should all use our vehicles less but it is not easy when everything is always far away from where we live and work etc. Governments should do more to improve to improve public services such as train and buses and to lower prices in fares.
