Why is antifreeze used in cars also "antiboil"? What is the sloute in antifreeze?

Question:
Also Why is it important to periodically check the concentration of antifreeze in the radiator of an automobile?

Answers:

I am a first time car owner. What should I know about it, that is an absolute must?

ethylyne glycole or something like that, been a long time since i took chemestry.

What are mechanics paid in the u.k?

anyhow antifreeze/coolant lowers freezing point and raises boiling point of coolant. boiling point is also raised by pressurizing your cooling system something like 2-3 degrees for every pound of pressure and most cars run about 10-15 psi. another reason for checking is coolant goes bad and it allong with your radiator become a low voltage battery.

What exactly is this? (who makes it, model, etc.) http://fukung.net/images/1441/315461041_ea1a10bf3c.jpg ?

water bolis at 212 50/50 coolanyt at 240.coolant also has anti rust stuff and waterpump lube in it

How long does it take a car to consume its power steering fluid?

It's a 50% solution of ethylene glycol. It boils at higher temperature than water. It also doesn't - well, almost - evaporate. Unlike water. But the water component does thus causing lowering level in the system. Also, ethylene glycol has extremely low surface tension which makes it very "leakable" - a smallest hole water wouldn't go, it will leak through. This is another reason to check level from time to time to make sure it's full and, therefore, is not leaking anywhere.

Does any one have CDL questions and answers?

100 % antifreeze boils @ 212 degrees in atmospheric conditions. The boiling point of any dilution of water and antifreeze increases because of the pressure cap on the radiator. Fords have the the pressure caps at the top of the coolant recovery bottle. A 16 pound pressure cap on the radiator raises the boiling point of the water / antifreeze solution to 266 degrees Fahrenheit.

Anyone have ever hear of this company- ? Is it reliable?

Get this, All Nextel cars use pure water and a chemical to make water wetter. Absolutely no antifreeze in any of them.

What is the worst made car in the world?

Prove this to yourself by using a Pyrex measuring cup directly on your stove to test the boiling point of antifreeze. Use a simple small cooking thermometer to do the test.
