Can't the government tell the gas companies they can't charge more than a certain amount, like rent control

I really think the gas companies are being very unfair, I don't think they need to raise the cost up as high as it is.

its not the gas companies making it cost so much it is the oil comapnies charging the gas companies so much money for the oil which is turned into gas and the gas companies have to charge that much to compensate for the money they spent on the oil and most government officials have some connection,or stock in the oil company or they own or are related to someone who own the oil compane (geroge w. bush) so it is in their best interest to charge that much because it keeps their wallets big.. so to answer your question the government does have the power to lower prices but won't do it because they are greedy.

why stop at gas... milk is at $3.00, and bottled water even more. The governement should let the market set prices. There are alternatives to gas, even if it is just cutting back individual consumption. Gov't regulation just strengthens an allready powerful Gov't.
