The 'litres' of a car is the displacement of the car. Every cylinder in the car needs a certain amount of fuel to make the car actually go. If the car is lets say a 'v6 2.4 litre engine' this means it has 6 cylinders [v6] and the the total capactiy of all the cylinders is 2.4 litres.Do you need to tip mechanics? Especially those at Jiffy Lube?
So 'v6 2.4 litres' means 6 cylinders and a total of 2.4 litres, to work out how many litres each cylinder is simply divide 2.4 by 6, which equals .4
So each cylinder has a .4 litre capacity

Liters is the metric form to describe the engine cylinder displacement. The English measure that many Americans use is the cubic inch. To convert, multiply cubic inches by .01639 to get the liter equivalent. Example is the popular Chevy 305 which translates to a five-liter engine. (305 x .01639 = 4.99 or about five)The United States is gradually being dragged, kicking and screaming, into the metric age. Still, the popular phrase remains the same: "There is no substitute for cubic inches."
