You need to wean yourself off looking at the gearstick, it is dangerous. You don't even need to be moving to practice it, just sit in a parked car and feel where the gears are.

Oh, and Aumharan G, not to learn with a manual gearbox is a rare thing in the UK. Also, driveing on the left has a far longer history than driveing on the right.
