I've got Explorer 2001. (The same I think with earlier models)
There are several downs I can mention:
1 You'll need a second job just to buy gas for this car.
2 Water pump got broken and as a result the engine got almost overheated.
3 It's very unstable on the highways.

OBD ll or better - which means On Board Diagnostics. I'm confident that you'll get a headache trying to deciper _any_ electronic monitoring/ diagnostic analysis! If your comfortable about air fuel mixture compensators, 02 conditioning and a slew of mechanical parts go for it!

DO any of you drive or own a old car?

The downs are it is a mushy handling beast with a prehistoric engine design and a 4 wheel drive system that only works about 2/3 of the time and is clunky and annoying to operate. It's also somewhat underpowered with the V6 and the solid axle leaf spring rear end bounces over bumps like a pickup truck. Emergency handling is about equal to a garbage truck with 3 flat tires.

Wrong or right, If your other half has a flat in his car 2 flats damaging the rims, no way to work and...?

The ups are...uh... wow...well... lets see, it probably is one of the more reliable Fords you can buy, but that like being the smartest retard in the special olympics. What else. The V8 version has good power, The leather/power seats are pretty comfortable if yours is so equipped. If you like inept American ergonomics and column shifters you will be right at home in the cabin
