On yahoo yesterday in the news section was an article of the top 10 most recalled cars 4 dodges, 1 hyundai, 2 toyotas,1 honda, 1 land rover and 1 chevy p/u the dodge had 7 recalls alone just on the 06 ram p/u which was caused mostly by outside manufactured parts originated from japan and china. Why do Americans still buy foreign cars and wonder why the economy is bad, or say detroit doesnt build good cars, what about the Mustang, the Corvette, Cadillac, the chrysler 300's etc. The big 3 make gas guzzlers too. Dont you think by supporting the Japanese car mfgs you are not supporting America? Do you care about the little chinese guy who is forced to work for 20 bucks a week with no labor laws or enviromental laws? Do you think the US auto mfgs should train more of their people to be engineers like toyota has to stay caught up in technology and mfg standards?

The simple facts are that the Japanese car makers build more reliable cars than the big 3 US automakers build. Survey after survey and study after study show the same thing. The number of recalls doesn't really tell you anything. Honda might recall 5 cars because of some plastic cover on a seat coming loose. Meanwhile Dodge might recall one car because of faulty wiring that can cause the steering column to catch on fire.
Which one is worse? The simple number of recalls is not meaningful in any way.

Also. What makes a car company "American" ? GM sells cars all over the world. Chrysler is partnered with the Diehmler group ( mercedes benz) So they are not American any more either, they are just as much German as they are American. GM builds cars all over the world. Ford builds mustangs in Canada and Mexico. Toyota builds most of it's cars here in the US if they are to be sold in the US. In fact they are building a new plant in the US in MIssissippi. The plant will provide jobs that pay upwards of 40k a year in an area that the average salary is 25k. Where is your money really going?

What service are you doing to the US economy if you don't encourage US car makers to build a better product? We already have a trade deficit. If we continue to buy substandard vehicles from the big 3 US makers, will people in other countries want to buy our cars? No. They need the incentive to build better products. If we as americans refuse to buy thier crappy cars, they will be forced to build better cars or go out of business. If they build better cars we can sell them to people in other countries.
If you think that our economy is struggling because of the US auto industry you have a bit of reading to do. The economy is struggling for a number of reasons. It's because of our national debt and because of our dismal savings rate. It's because of the increased fuel costs, and increased health care costs. The value of the dollar is falling and other countries are re-thinking thier investments in the US dollar. China is virtually single handedly funding our debt. What happens if they decide to stop?
Our trade deficit is at an all time high. China is artificially devaluing thier own currency so that thier goods are always cheaper than our goods.
