You should have a class 3 hitch plus a designed coupler for load leveling bars. Commonly known as a Reese Hitch and a special coupler with Reese (spring) type bars.
This system is designed to adjust and transfer hitch weight to all four wheels of the pulling vehicle plus trailer wheels evenly instead of dead weight directly on the rear hitch. Without the load leveling device this is a dangerous situation because the pulling vehicle will be bouncing alomg the highway because the shocke or struts were not designed to dampen the uneven heavier weight. The front steering becomes light due to the decreased weight and rear springs may bottom out causing third member damage.
