only answer this if you know for sure, thanks,..iam a giving my brother-in-law my car it has 6 months MOT no tax, he is putting it on his driveway for a couple of months(without road tax) untill he passes his driving test..the house he lives in is a council owned house, can he get any tax fines for having the car parked on his drive (the car will not be driven on a public road untill he passes his test.thanks.

Yes, if the tax has expired he can be fined. You will need to declare your car as off the road with a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification). This is free and can be done online (using the DVLA website) very easily.you need a sorn statement if it currently doesn't have tax. easy to do online and saves a fine. If you have tax then send in the disc and get a refund on a percentage of the remaining tax. You can get fined for a vehicle on private land with no tax unless it has a sorn. Just go onto the dvla website and enter all the details.
