Question:
Alarm started going off randomly this afternoon. Tried changing the door switches but doesn't seem to have solved the problem. Have noticed that the courtesy light doesn't now work with the drivers door - have tried several different switches, but doesn't work at all with that door open ? I even tried removing the switch alltogether from that door in case it was causing the problem, but the alarm still goes off.
How do I "chick-ify" my new truck?
Any ideas ? or is there a simple way to disable the alarm so that at least I can lock the car ? (perhaps remove a fuse)
Grateful of any help
Dave

Initially, have you checked the onvious? Has the little bulb in the light blown? Can you still turn it on with the interior button?Do you think tinted windows make it easier for crooks to spot out your car?
My MGF has had it's fair share of gremlins. Mine was the other way around, interior light wouldn't go off and in turn my rear lights wouldn't work!
Why must the car be lowered slowly with the floor jack?
The problem is with the drivers door lock. The unit houses several microswitches, and if you can find them then they can be replaced for a couple of quid each. But it's much easier to go to the scrappy and get a recon lock assembly and swap over the barrel so the key still works.
Here's a link to a german MGF site, although it shows an MGF lock, it shows you the switches that are the cause of your problem.

Would you save gas if you filled up only half way so there is less weight?
Sounds like a faulty earth on the door switch.this would set the alarm off as the alarm would think the door is open.
You should have a key switch to turn the alarm off normally sited on top the siren
